How to change your name in India
For an adult Central Gazette name change: prepare the declaration, publish the newspaper notice, complete the prescribed Gazette paperwork, then submit to the Department of Publication.
The Department’s adult guidance for Gazette Part IV lists an undertaking, the original newspaper, the prescribed proforma, photographs, identity proof, a matching hard/soft-copy declaration, a request letter and the fee.

Much of the preparation can be done remotely. But “online name change” does not mean every part of the Central Gazette process is digital. The government’s submission rules still decide how the application is lodged.

What happens after Gazette publication?
A Gazette notification does not automatically change your documents. Each authority has its own update procedure.
Your Gazette publication is evidence of the change — not the change itself, everywhere.
