Who we are

NameChangeDesk is a coordination service for people changing or correcting their name in India. We take your enquiry, explain the documents and steps that apply to your case, and coordinate the work through to completion.

The editorial team is the part of NameChangeDesk that researches, writes and updates the guides published on this site.

Who writes the guides

Every guide is written by the NameChangeDesk Editorial Team. We publish under the team name rather than individual names.

Our guides are general procedural information. They are not written or reviewed by an advocate, and they are not legal advice.

How we research a guide

Each guide starts from the official source for the procedure it describes. These include:

  • Department of Publication guidelines and rate orders for Gazette of India name changes
  • The eGazette portal
  • UIDAI guidance for Aadhaar name updates
  • Passport Seva and Ministry of External Affairs instructions
  • Income Tax Department guidance for PAN
  • Election Commission of India forms for voter records
  • State government Gazette authorities, where a state process applies

Where an official document is dated or has been superseded, we say so in the guide instead of presenting an old figure as current.

How guides are checked and updated

Before publication, each guide is reviewed within the team for accuracy against its sources, for clarity, and for consistency with our other guides.

Every guide shows the date it was last updated. When a fee, form, address or rule changes, we update the guides it affects.

Who handles your case

Case work is carried out by independent advocates from our partner network. NameChangeDesk coordinates between you and the advocate handling your case.

Individual advocates are not named on this site because the assignment depends on the case, including the type of name change and the location involved.

What we do not do

  • We are not a government department or Gazette authority.
  • We do not present our guides as legal advice.
  • We do not guarantee that an authority will approve or publish an application.
  • We do not publish invented reviewers, credentials or case studies.
